Design Center 101: Kitchen- Cabinets
Stepping into the design center can be slightly overwhelming. There are a ton of options for just about everything. It is best to come in with an idea of what you are wanting for your new home. Design Center 101 is here to help you come in with a plan and make your appointment run much smoother.
The kitchen is the heart of the home. Its also the room that takes the most time at the design center to decorate. There are just so many choices. Below I will go through different options you have for just your cabinets.
We offer cabinets in three different types of woods, knotty alder, oak and maple. Knotty alder will have knots through out the wood. This can vary in size and quantity. Oak shows more grain through out the cabinets. Maple has a more smooth looking finish.
After choosing the wood type you can decide on to stain, paint or paint and antique glaze. We have quite a few samples in the design center to play around with and help you find what you are looking for.
This is an example of a really dark stain on knotty alder wood with a flat panel door. The knots are not as visible as a lighter stain.
This is a medium colored stain on cabinets. It really shows off the knots in the knotty alder wood. This is an eyebrow arch style door.
This is an example of the oak cabinets. You can see the beautiful grain of the cabinets really show trough on this medium color stain. The door style here is the eyebrow arch.
This homeowner had all their cabinets painted white. This makes for a really bright kitchen. This is our square panel door.
This homeowner had the cabinets painted white then an antique glaze applied over. This is a great look for a bright kitchen with out wanting white cabinets.
Here is a great example of both painted cabinets and stained cabinets. This homeowner decided on staining the cabinets against the walls a dark color and had the island painted white to really stand out.
Here is a great example of painted cabinets on the wall and a stained Island. Either way they both make the island stand out.
Door style is another thing to think about when picking out your cabinets. This is a shaker style cabinet. It is simillar to the square panel but is more plain. You can also do a flat panel style door.
Above your cooktop you may want to think about doing a wood hood. Here is one that was painted white. They have also staggered the cabinets above the microwave and oven. It just gives the cabinets a little more detail.
Here this kitchen has done a wood hodd above the cook top in addition to staggaring the cabinets above the microwave and oven, and the refridgerator.
Another add on to your cabinets are glass inserts in your doors. Here is an example of some in oak cabinets that have been stained. This is a great idea if you have a lot of pretty dishes, pitchers bowls etc. you want to have on display.
